Visual recording.
Transcending form is theatrical performance that has been photographed for promotion purposes. the images have been created in a studio and represent the performance shown by the dancers. In each of these photographs they have been taken in black and white, which enhances the formal elements in the frame. David Lachapelle has used visual narrative in these photos to show and promote what is is they are doing. He has positioned them in a expressive dance position and took the picture to show emotion in the image.
I intend to develop my own visual recording for my final outcome focusing on the same use of visual narrative that enhances formal elements.
project plan
- what i plan on doing in the studio
- screenshot example website
- what studio equipment i plan on using
What will the shoot be for?
- the shoot will be for a movie poster that i will create. This is going to be for an thriller/horror movie and will only need one model and no props for the shoot.
Evaluation of existing website imagery.
- the imagery on Odeon is very unique as they are movie posters and they are supposed to be depicted like that. You can tell by the poster what kind of film it is going to be which is the editors job. they make the logo text stand out, give the poster image a unique setting and the age rating.
Equipment I will use:
i will be using two hard lights to give myself the effect of low key lighting and the black backdrop
Intended outcome:
I wanted to create the effect of a face appearing out of the darkness in the centre of the frame.
Research
- find examples of high key and low key lighting
Low key Lighting
Low key lighting is where the image is highly shadowed and shows little detail to where the lighting is focused. Low key lighting is don in a studio where the light can be manipulated so the light can be bright or dim usually using one hard light on the model so that the light isn't to dim and soft. The background has to be black so it shows no detail behind the model/object.
High key Lighting
High key lighting is where the selected frame has barely any shadows so that the image shows all light possible without making look too abstract. high key lighting is mainly on a white background but some specialists know how to use this technique outside the studio. light manipulation in this technique doesn't mean a lot as long as there is a few light with soft boxes to light the backdrop and a beauty dish on the models/objects side
Both techniques are usually filtered in Black and White to give more emphasis to the high key and low key. photoshop can also come into editing these pictures as you can edit the levels/curves to make the image lighter or darker.
- This movie poster looks like it hasn't been edited but if you notice around the models hair, it has a slight pink effect and the editor has probably gave slight touch ups to the models face e.g getting rid of blemishes, brightening the eyes to make them stand out etc. Adding the text into the poster isn't hard but finding a unique font is.This movie poster has obviously been digitally edited so that the image in their mind can be created. the effect with the rose petals gives the impression that a body/person is delicate. Digital media like this can take a long time to make perfect but the results reflect on the time put into. Digital media is a big influence to have when creating images as you can usually create images that can be created using make-up effects or any other type.
